Wolves tie with late goal
A goal by St. Catharines’ midfielder Zejko Dukic just nine minutes from time gave his side a 1-1 tie with visiting North York Astros at Club Roma in St. Catharines, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.
Dukic took a pass from the wing to push the ball past Astros’ goalkeeper Arthur Zaslavski, a goal that prevented what was looking like a narrow defeat for the home side.
Astros took the lead following a hard fought scoreless first half when seven minutes after the interval midfielder Vitaliy Mishchenko found the net with the help of a deflection from a St. Catharines defender.
The point gives St. Catharines a 1-1-2 WLT record for five points, tied with the Astros in the National Division with their 1-2-2 record, also for five points.
North York’s next game is at home to Brampton Stallions, a 7 pm kickoff at Esther Shiner Stadium on Sunday, while St. Catharines Wolves return to action next Wednesday, a home encounter with Toronto Supra Portuguese with an 8.15 pm start.
