Border Stars defeat St. Catharines Wolves
Laval Dynamites opened their season on a winning note with a 3-1 victory over Oakville Blue Devils at the Bois-de-Boulogne Stadium, Laval, Saturday night, the first of two back-to-back games between these two teams over the weekend, while at the same time the Windsor Border Stars were enjoying a 3-1 home win over St. Catharines Wolves at Windsor Stadium.
Defender Hicham Aaboubou opened the scoring for Laval at the 17th minute mark and Rachid Madkour made it 2-0 on a penalty kick at 54 minutes in steady rain that continued for the rest of the game. Blue Devils’ midfielder Zoran Calic reduced the deficit with a goal at 67 minutes, but Nasson Theosmy made sure of the victory with a third goal for Les Dynamites seven minutes from time.
Carlo Arghittu opened the scoring for St. Catharines Wolves after 8 minutes, but Border Stars took control with first half goals by forward Dominic Scicluna and Tati Erracalde for a 2-1 lead at the interval and defender Mark Favaro added a third Windsor goal at 78 minutes for a 3-1 final score.
