The CPSL Open Canada Cup, open to all senior men’s teams in Canada, amateur or professional, will kickoff on the Victoria Day weekend, May 20 – 22 with a deadline for entries on May 1.
It’s the fourth season of the popular competition which is aimed eventually to provide Canada with a total club championship and a stepping stone to the CONCACAF Confederation club title, a competition in which the club champions of North and Central America and the Caribbean take part.
Amateur teams will kickoff during the Victoria Day weekend, with the surviving teams advancing to the Second Round. That’s when the professional teams enter the picture – during the Canada Day long weekend July 2 to 4 and the Third Round will be played during the weekend July 29/30 or August 5/6. The semi-finals and Open Canada Cup Final will be played during the Labour Day weekend September 2 – 4.
Windsor-based Border Stars won last season’s Open Canada Cup for the second time with a 3-0 defeat of London City to follow their previous year inaugural season victory over Ottawa St. Anthony Italia, an amateur team from the highly regarded Ottawa-Carleton Soccer League. In 2003, the CPSL’s London City were victorious in a penalty kick win over Metro Lions in an all-pro final.
