TORONTO CROATIA THUMPS ASTROS 6-1, BLANKS LONDON CITY 2-0 TO GO BACK ON TOP. SHOOTERS, DURHAM FLAMES ALSO PICK-UP WEEKEND WINS
Joey Todaro scored a pair, Paul Sinisi, Chris Gomez and Andrea Rollins added singles for York Region Shooters in the 5-0 win, a game in which Shooters goalkeeper Peter Libicz was outstanding in earning the shutout. On the return match played at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa, Paul Boyle and Edson Brecede were the second half scorers for Durham. York Region Shooters lift their record to 7-6-3 WLT for 24 points, in third place in the Eastern Conference-- tied on points with second place Metro Lions.Durham Flames now have a 7-7-2 record for 23 points to be still in the playoff hunt with three league games remaining.
Josip Juric also scored twice for his Toronto Croatia in the 2-0 win over London City and he repeated for another two in the 6-1 win over the Astros. Hugo Alstitud also scored two for Croatia, Mladin Dikic and Velemir Crljen scored singles. Lukesz Krakowiak netted the lone marker for North York. The two weekend wins lift Croatia to the top with 28 points. London City has a 2-7-6 record for 12 points.Hamilton, held to the scoreless tie for just a single point now have a 7-5-4 record for 25 points and drop to the runner-up position. Supra are lifted off the bottom position in the Eastern Conference with a 3-7-3 record, now one point above Vaughan Sun Devils with 11 points. St. Catharines Roma Wolves are left with one league game remaining following their 2-1 win over Brampton Hitmen at Victoria Park on Sunday. Tony Carbonara score the winner just five minutes from time with the score tied 1-1 on goals by Carlos Arghittu for Roma Wolves after 25 minutes and Daniel Cerros at the 80th minute for the Hitmen. Both Hamilton Thunder and Mississauga Olympians have two games in hand over the Roma Wolves in a very tight race for the top three playoff positions. The Hitmen now appear to be out of the running.
