FIFA MAN AND HOCKEY EXEC TO GIVE VIEWS ON PRO SOCCER IN CANADA
TORONTO�Tuesday, May 13�Dick Howard, the only North American on the prestigious FIFA Technical Committee, and Cary Kaplan, the recent president of the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League and considered to be one of hockey�s bright young executives, will each give their views on where Canadian soccer is heading on the world stage at a pre-season press conference of the Canadian Professional Soccer League at Toronto City Hall this Thursday, May 15 at 12 noon.
Howard, a former pro in England, Canada and the Unites States and the former Technical Director of the Canadian Soccer Association, will talk especially about why professional soccer is considered so important for Canada to progress internationally.
Kaplan, who promoted one of the most attractive and best attended soccer matches played at Varsity Stadium with the visit of Italian Serie A team Parma in 1995, will give his views on what it takes for soccer to become a mainstream sport in North America.
The official launch of the 2003 season of the Canadian Professional Soccer League is the occasion for media to receive accreditation, the league schedule and other information necessary to follow Canada�s only professional soccer league which kicks off its Open Canada Cup competition this coming Victoria Day weekend at London, Ontario and the league season with the May 24 opener at Civic Stadium in Oshawa.
