Ottawa's Kevin Nelson led the Wizards with two goals at Cove Road, his 11th and 12th of the season and Brent Antoine scored a third, all goals coming in the second half. Antoine also scored for the Wizards on August 24, but only after Olympians' rookie Alan Brown opened the scoring with a picture goal at the 63rd minute mark and described as the strike of the season in the CPSL. Brown struck the volley from 35 yards to leave Wizards' goalkeeper Sa Brahima Traore helpless in the Ottawa nets as the ball entered just under the bar. Antoine tied 1-1 after 73 minutes and the Ottawa winner came just six minutes later on a goal by Urbaine Some. Vaughan Sun Devils were looking like the winners at Highland Park on the Friday night when Gus Kouzmanis scored twice to put the Sun Devils two-up at half time, but a three goal rally by York Region gave the Shooters the 3-2 decision.The win moves York Region up to a third place tie with Metro Lions in the Eastern Conference, each with 18 points. Hamilton Thunder also picked up three points with a 2-1 win over North York Astros, a win that moves Hamilton to third place in the Western Conference.Friday's games included a 2-1 League Cup win by Toronto Croatia for a two-game 6-1 aggregate score and a berth in the quarter-finals of the League Cup against Mississauga Olympians.
On Sunday, a goal by Brampton's popular midfielder Phil Ionadi at the 11th minute mark held up for the 1-0 win over Toronto Croatia. The Hitmen fought to hold on to the lead the entire second half with 10 men when Matthew Hudson was ejected late in the first half after receiving two yellow cards. The Hitmen improve to a 4-7-4 WLT for 17 points, while Toronto Croatia have a 6-3-4 record for 22 points, both teams in the Western Conference.
