HAMILTON ENDS SUPRA'S SEASON-LONG UNBEATEN LEAGUE RUN
It was a night of upsets in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Wednesday with Toronto Supra losing their record as the only unbeaten team in this years campaign and no less than six players were sent to the dressing rooms in the two games played.
Supra were outplayed 4-2 by Hamilton Thunder at Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton while further down the Niagara Peninsula, St. Catharines Wolves ran amok in winning just their second league game of the season, a 4-0 shutout of Brampton Hitmen at Club Roma, St. Catharines.
But the frenzy got out of hand in the second half resulting in a melee that required referee Justin Tasev to eject two players from each team.
Hamilton striker Kevin Nelson broke the game wide open at Brian Timmis Stadium, scoring once at 4 minutes, then again two minutes later to give Thunder a 2-0 early lead from which unbeaten Supra never fully recovered.
Ian Bennett scored a third for Hamilton at 17 minutes and Domagoj Sain scored the lone Supra goal in the first half for a 3-1 half-time score.
Sasa Milaimovic struck the fourth Hamilton goal at 52 minutes and Mikhail Gouchtchine scored Supras second at 67 minutes for a 4-2 final score.
Supras Giovanni Annisi and Robert Fran were ejected in the game, each receiving two yellow cards.
Hamilton improve to a 4-3-3 record for 15 points and advance to third place in the Western Conference, while Supras unbeaten run means a 6-1-4 record for 22 points, good for second spot in the east, two points behind Metro Lions on top.
Tony Carbonara sparked St. Catharines Wolves with two goals in the 4-0 win over the Hitmen, his goals coming at 45 and 56 minutes after Ian Sinclair opened the scoring at the 16th minute mark. Frank Del Priore scored the 4th at 72 minutes.
Tempers ran high in the game and this eventually resulted in an altercation involving several players at the 85th minute mark, resulting in red cards being shown to St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri and forward Frank Del Priore, and Brampton players midfielder Adolfo Mella and defender Alvaro Yaques.
St. Catharines win their second league game of the season, but remain in the cellar position with a 2-5-4 record, while Brampton drop to fourth position in the west with a 4-5-3 record for 15 points.
