PAUL MUNSTER LEADS LONDON CITY WITH BOTH GOALS IN A 2-0 SHUTOUT OF NORTH YORK ASTROS

London City forward Paul Munster led his team with two goals to a 2-0 shutout of North York Astros in light, but steady rain throughout on the FieldTurf surface at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Tuesday.

But it could have been a different story and outcome but for the oustanding play of Haidar Al-Shaibani in the London City nets. His acrobatics together with a goal-shy performance by Astros' attackers, prevented numerous opportunities for the home side to hit the net.

Munster struck early for London City with two goals in as many minutes, the first in a free passing play leading the ball being pushed out of reach to the left of North York 'keeper Arthur Zaslavski, and the second one minute later when Munster picked up the ball in the Astros' half to move in for goal number two.

North York's Alex Braletic and Gabriel Salguero were two of several players with good scoring opportunities, but both failed to beat Al Shaibani playing his best game of the current campaign.

London City move into third position in the Western Conference standings with a 4-3-2 WLT record for 14 points, one point behind Brampton Hitmen in the runner-up position. Border Stars lead the west with 20 points

London City and North York Astros both see Open Canada Cup action at the weekend when the City take on Border Stars at Cove Road, London on Friday night, an 8.40 p.m. kickoff, while the Astros meet the impressive Ottawa St. Anthony Italia in a game played on Saturday at the Centennial Stadium, Kitchener in a special soccer day in that Southwestern Ontario community. Kickoff is 8 p.m.
