BRALETIC LIFTS ASTROS TO 3-2 VICTORY OVER ST. CATHARINES WOLVES

Alex Braletic, a 17 year old striker out of the Woodbridge Soccer Club now in his third year with North York Astros, was the hero of the night in scoring with just a few seconds to go, his second of the game in a 3-2 win over St. Catharines Wolves at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan Tuesday.

It was the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League as the only complete professional league in Canada nears the half-way mark in its 2004 campaign.

Braletic, the youngest striker in the CPSL, opened the scoring for the Astros at the 46th minute mark following a scoreless and evenly-played first half.

But the goals were plentiful after that when midfielder Peter Zorbas made it 2-0 for the Astros at 51 minutes and just one minute later Carlo Arghittu notched a goal for St. Catharines, beating Arthur Zaslavski in the North York nets to make it 2-1.

St. Catharines' forward Gary McGuchan tied the game at 2-2 at the 63rd minute mark and over the next 30 minutes both teams could have scored the winner but just when it appeared to be heading for a final 2-2 tie Braletic beat Claudio Perri in the St.Catharines' goal for the 3-2 victory.

Astros improve to 2-5-1 WLT for 7 points and fourth place in the east, while St. Catharines remain at the foot of the Western Conference standings with a 1-4-3 record.
