Brampton Hitmen and London City each scored important victories to take over the first and second positions respectively in the Western Conference of the Canadian Professional Soccer League Friday.
The Hitmen scored a narrow 2-1 win over Durham Storm at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa and London City scored a come-from-behind 3-2 squeaker at The Cove in London where City forward Paul Munster scored two goals for the second time this season.
Kurt Mella gave Brampton a 1-0 lead after 34 minutes for a 1-0 half-time lead but three minutes after the interval Jahmo Welch tied the score for Durham. Brampton Hitmen captain Phil Ionadi struck the winner with a free kick at the 57th minute to put the Hitmen top of the standings.
North York Astros took a 1-0 half-time lead on a goal at the 28th minute by midfielder Gabriel Salguero. Munster tied the game 1-1 at 56 minutes and Phil McDonald put London 2-1 up at the 72 nd minute mark. Astros tied the game 2-2 just a minute later on a goal by Daniel Jaroch but Munster scored his second goalto break the 2-2 tie with a goal at 78 minutes and the strike held up for the 3-2 London win.
Brampton go to the top of the Western Conference with a 3-1-2 WLT record for 11 points and London are at 9 points with a better goal differential over Border Stars, also with nine.
The Astros are now at 0-4-1 while Durham Storm also remain winless with a 0-5-0 record to occupy the foot of the Eastern Conference.
