PLAYOFF PICTURE EMERGING

Its almost time for the playoffs and the Rogers Trophy for the CPSL Championship, considered by most fans to be the most exciting time of the 5-month long campaign.

The playoff picture is emerging slowly with two berths, the third place in each of the Eastern Conference and Western Conference still undecided, but venues have been decided for the quarter-finals to be played early this coming week.

The big finale weekend will be held at The Cove in London the weekend Friday,October 3 to Sunday, October 5.

To give an outline of how the playoffs work, there will be seven teams in the CPSL playoffsthree from each of the two conferences (east and west) and London Citythe host team is automatically included in a Wild Card game if it does not finish in the top three.

And London City is not in the top three.

Ottawa Wizards and Brampton Hitmen are part of the playoff picture again this year and the quarter finals involving the second and third teams in each conference get underway soon.

The top team in each of the two conferences, winner of the Eastern Conference and winner of the Western Conference, will get a bye to the semi-finals.

In the Eastern Conference, the second and third team in each conference will play a one game knockout and the winner meets the east winner in the semi-final.

In the Western Conference, the second and third place teams playoff and the winner will meet London City in a Wild Card game on Friday, October 3to kickoff the big weekend.

The winner of the Wild Card game will go to the semi-finals to meet the winner of the Western Conference.

In these 2nd vs. 3rd place quarter-final games, the second place team has home advantage.

The first quarter-final game will be played on Tuesday, September 30 when Western Conference runner-up Brampton Hitmen will be at home to the third place finisher in the west. That's an 8.30 pm kickoff at Victoria Park and the second quarter-final game will take place the following night on Wednesday, October 1 when Eastern Conference runner-up Toronto Supra will be at home to the west third place finisher. That game will take place at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, a 6.45 pm kickoff.

The semi-finals will be played on Saturday, October 4 and the CPSL Championship Final for the Rogers Cup will be played on Sunday, October 5.
