SUPRA 3-2 WIN SETS UP SHOWDOWN
Toronto Supra took a 3-0 half-time lead and held off a strong Metro Lions second half bid with two goals, to finish best of a 3-2 score at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke on Tuesday night.
Supra remains unbeaten in the Eastern Conference of the Canadian Professional Soccer League to set-up a weekend showdown with Ottawa Wizards who now lead the east conference just two points ahead of Supra. Tuesdays win gives the west-end Toronto team the opportunity to take over when the two teams come together at Victoria Park in Brampton on Sunday afternoon.
Midfielder Martin Perazas two first half goals did the trick for Supra, he scored at 19 and 40 minutes, with Michael Di Luca scoring the third, just four minutes after Perazas first goal.
Metro Lions, who continue to look much better than their league standing suggests, fought back in the second half to score twice, once by Darryl Gomez at 64 minutes and the second by Hayden Fitzwilliams three minutes later.
But it was Supra which came through with the win for three big points and they now breathe down the neck of a strong Ottawa Wizards side, unbeaten in both the league and Open Canada Cup competition. Supra are unbeaten in the league, but lost a surprise 1-0 decision to amateur team Kanata in the Open Canada Cup on August 4.
Supra has a 7-0-3 WLT record for 24 points, Ottawa has a 8-0-2 record for 26 points.
Toronto Supra hosts Ottawa Wizards at a relocated venueVictoria Park in Brampton, the home of Brampton Hitmen for this game only while the Supra home ground at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke is occupied over the weekend.
