WIZARDS REGAIN TOP SPOT WITH 5-2 VICTORY
Ottawa Wizards had an easy time in the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League on Saturday, coming away with a 5-2 victory over a struggling Durham Flames to lift the Wizards two points clear of Toronto Supra at the top of the CPSL�s Eastern Conference. Supra had held the top position for a 24 hour period following their 3-3 tie with Vaughan Sun Devils Friday night.
Charles Gbeke opened the scoring for Ottawa at the 21st minute mark, Kevin Nelson added a second, his fifth of the season nine minutes later and Gbeke made it 3-0 at the 39th minute mark, the score at half-time.
Durham�s Ryan Dummett cut the lead to 3-1 two minutes after the interval, but Abraham Osman increased the Ottawa lead to 4-1 at 65 minutes. It was Osman�s fourth of the season.
Adam Vickers of Durham scored at 76 minutes for a 4-2 score and midfielder McDonald Yobe rounded out the scoring for Ottawa at the 81st minute mark for a final 5-2 score.
The Wizards remain unbeaten with a winning streak of five league games going back to June 8 and now have a 6-0-1 WLT record for 19 points. The Flames struggle at the foot of the Eastern Conference with a 1-9-0 record and three points.
Toronto Supra maintained its unbeaten streak with a 3-3 tie with Vaughan Sun Devils at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, one of two games played on Friday night.
In the second game, Brampton Hitmen came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the score, also 3-3, with London City at The Cove in London.
Martin Peraza opened the scoring for Supra at the 22nd minute mark and Vaughan�s Timothy Carzon tied the score at 41 minutes.
The game turned into a see-saw struggle with Supra taking a 2-1 lead on a goal at the 76th minute mark by Sam Afriyie and Sun Devils made it 2-2 on a strike by Joey Todaro 12 minutes later. Supra took the lead at the 90th minute mark, a goal by Danny Amaral and Jason De Thomasis had the last say in tying the game for Sun Devils just before the final whistle.
The tie raises Supra�s unbeaten string in league and cup competition to eight and they now have a 5-0-2 WLT record for 17 points. Vaughan Sun Devils have a 3-1-2 record for 11 points.
London City squandered a 3-1 lead against Brampton Hitmen at Cove Road in London to concede two goals in the second half for a 3-3 tie. City also finished the game with just nine men, two players being ejected.
London took the lead on a goal by Ashley McMillan at the 21st minute and Brampton�s Phil Ionadi made it 1-1 eight minutes later. Eris Tafaj made it 2-1 for London after 45 minutes, the half-time score.
Eris Tafaj struck his second goal for a 3-1 London lead after 64 minutes, but four minutes later Hitmen�s Adolfo Mella cut the lead to 3-2.
Ionadi scored the tying goal, his second of the game at the 87th minute mark for a 3-3 final score.
It�s just five days ago that London City were well into the second half with a 3-0 lead against Hamilton Thunder, but Thunder replied for four goals and London went down 4-3.
