Toronto Croatia nipped St. Catharines Roma Wolves, 1-0, at Club Roma in St. Catharines Wednesday night, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League.
The win was enough to lift the Mississauga-based Croatia off the bottom of the Western Conference standings and made amends for the 2-0 loss in the hands of St. Catharines at Memorial Park last Friday.
Joe Dragonic scored the winner for Croatia at the 76th minute mark following a hard fought first half that continued past the interval.
It was just Toronto Croatias second win of the season but the second in 10 days following the 2-0 victory over North York Astros on July 7. To that point, Croatia had lost five straight games. Croatia now has a 2-5-0 WLT record for 6 points, one above Mississauga Olympians at the foot of the table.
St. Catharines, which had an opportunity to top the Western Conference standings with a win tonight, now stand at 3-3-1 for 10 points, two behind Hamilton Thunder.
