CPSL TO OFFER OPEN CUP AND $10,000 PRIZE TO ONTARIO TEAMS
The Canadian Professional Soccer League is about to open up its CPSL Government of Canada Cup competition, previously known as the CPSL League Cup, to all senior teams in Ontario.
The move will open the competition to all CPSL member clubs as in the past and for a fee of $595 any senior amateur or professional team in the province can join in.
A prize of $10,000 to the winning team is expected to be announced.
Preliminary plans call for the CPSL Canada Cup to be a one-game knockout competition and games will be played at selected CPSL grounds during the four holiday weekends in 2003.
The mid-May Victoria Day weekend is being considered for the preliminary round, with rounds two and three to be held Canada Day weekend at the end of June, and the Civic Holiday weekend the beginning of August.
The finals would be staged over the Labour Day weekend.
With details still being worked out, an early deadline for entries is expected to be sometime during December or early January.
